The Sabbath Rest

More than a third of the world's workforce regularly works over 48 hours a week, and long hours now claim hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Against that backdrop, the fourth commandment looks less like a religious rule and more like a revolution. One day in seven, every son and daughter, every enslaved worker, every migrant, every ox and donkey was to rest, with no exceptions. What makes the Sabbath a commandment a society keeps together, rather than one a person keeps alone?
